The Val di Noto is a recommended destination for travelers seeking a nature vacation with a strong cultural aspect. Located in the southeastern corner of Sicily, it boasts some of the island's most cherished coastal stretches, featuring beautiful and diverse beaches. These range from the long, comfortable sandy expanses of Sampieri to the popular Marina di Ragusa, from the surfer’s paradise of Portopalo di Capo Passero to the natural wonder of Calamosche. The latter is nestled in the heart of one of the region’s natural treasures, the Vendicari Wildlife Oasis, one of the most interesting wetlands in Europe. Our multiple bike trips in Sicily have been filled with great emotions, and the places we have passed through have been true discoveries. Cycling trips along the roads of southeastern Sicily provide an opportunity to discover new places, new landscapes, and new travel companions, all while focusing on your physical and mental well-being. Traveling in a group offers the chance to meet people, in addition to exploring territories, making this trip the perfect blend of both needs. Caltagirone, Ragusa, Modica, Marina di Ragusa, Marzamemi, Noto, and Syracuse are visits that leave a lasting impression, not only architecturally but also due to the warmth of the people and the traditions that fill each moment of the day with joy. The greatest emotion we felt was visiting Porto Palo di Capo Passero, the southernmost town in Italy, excluding the islands. This place is a divide between two seas, the Ionian and the Mediterranean, where we met many young people who enliven the evenings of this tiny town with a great desire to celebrate. Their smiles are the emotions we carried home with us.

This journey is highly recommended for those who wish to combine a biking experience with a journey through history and a magical territory.

The Late Baroque Towns of the Val di Noto (Southeastern Sicily)

The site, representing the pinnacle of Baroque in Europe, includes three entire historic centers: Caltagirone, Noto, and Ragusa. It also comprises specific urban areas of Catania and Scicli, and several isolated monuments in Modica, Palazzolo Acreide, and Militello Val di Catania. The sumptuous and elegant palaces, churches with precious interiors and stunningly ornate facades, and urban layouts woven in a single style make this southeastern area of Sicily an exceptional example of architectural influence on the territory. They represent one of the world's highest expressions of Late European Baroque. The style commonly referred to as "Val di Noto Baroque" varies from one city to another, mainly due to the different materials used for construction: for example, in Catania, the Baroque is dark gray due to the use of lava stone, while in Noto, it takes on the luminous honey color of the local stone.

Proper Spring/Summer Diet Along the Itinerary: In Sicily, in the Val di Noto, we find quintessential Sicilian specialties such as arancini, cannoli, and granita. However, we also encounter the unique flavors, products, and aromas typical of this corner of Sicily, such as scacce ragusane, horse meatballs, and Catania's fried pastries, Modica's 'mpanatigghi, and Scicli's teste di Turco.
