What You’ll See on Your Trip
Trip Itinerary
More information regarding the time and meeting point for the first/last day will be provided after the booking.
Transfer (not included) to Arucas (45 minutes), where we will stay and where you will meet our guide who will introduce you to the island's secrets. Test ride of the mountain bikes that we will use the following day for our first excursion. Visit to the town. The urban center of Arucas has been declared of historical and artistic interest. The Parish Church of San Juan Bautista, carved entirely from Arucas stone by local master stonemasons, is the most important architectural work. The Arehucas Rum Distillery and Museum, open to the public from morning until noon, is considered one of the emblematic buildings of the municipality due to its great local tradition. In front of a caña de cerveza at a bar near the Catedral de San Juan in Arucas, we will prepare for dinner at one of the typical local restaurants in the center. Overnight stay.
While the southern part of the island, home to the Grand Canyon, is arid, the northern part is covered in lush forests and is thus known as the "green north." The loop route starts from Arucas, following a trail along the river to Firgas. Ascending to 700 meters and following the road to Valleseco, one of the most scenic spots on the island, characterized by a very lush natural environment that at times resembles a jungle. This area offers a great variety of trails to explore, showcasing the botanical diversity of the Doramas Rural Park. The trail features black and compact pebbles, rocky sections, and red soil around the Montaña de Firgas. Upon reaching the town, stop at the coffee kiosk on the terrace in the center of Firgas and visit the Parish Church of San Roque, built on the ruins of what was once the first hermitage of San Juan Ortega from 1502. The “Paseo de Gran Canaria” and “Paseo de Canaria,” in the heart of the urban center, were once the “calle Real” of the Center but are now pedestrian streets. Their natural incline was used to build a beautiful 30-meter-high waterfall, crafted from stone and adorned with a stunning inlay. Along the promenade, you can see the 22 heraldic shields representing all the municipalities of Gran Canaria, along with the island shield. Following the trail, with alternating uphill and downhill sections, you pass through characteristic fern jungle paths to reach the highest point of this Green North adventure. From here, descend following the water channels of the spring to return to Arucas. Dinner and overnight stay.
Transfer to the starting point of the trek. Roque Nublo, a natural monument of ancestral significance located in the municipality of Tejeda on Gran Canaria, is considered one of the largest natural rock formations in the world. This volcanic rock, highly valued by the locals, rises 80 meters above its base and reaches 1,813 meters above sea level. An ancient place of worship for the island’s aboriginal people, the surrounding area was designated a protected natural area in 1987 and a rural park seven years later. Its imposing presence is surpassed in height only by the Pico de Las Nieves, which stands at 1,949 meters, the highest point on Gran Canaria. The trail to Roque Nublo starts from the main road, covering 1.5 kilometers to get close to the natural monument and its "brother," the rocky outcrop of La Rana. Before reaching Roque Nublo, you pass another landmark, the rocky outcrop of El Fraile. This five-kilometer walk also offers views of the large dams of Las Niñas, Chira, and Soria, as well as the towns of Artenara and Acusa. The vistas of the Tejeda caldera, Llanos de La Pez, and Pozo de Las Nieves reward the effort of the hike. Return transfer to Tejeda, where you will stay and have dinner.
Transfer a short distance to reach the trailhead that will take us to visit the UNESCO World Heritage archaeological site. Risco Caído is an ancient village, a key site of the indigenous Canary culture, located in a vast mountainous area in central Gran Canaria. It consists of a series of caves carved into the tuff on the left side of the Barranco de Hondo, which separates the municipalities of Artenara and Galgar. These caves were used as living quarters and stables until the end of the 9th century. Among them, Cave C6 is notable for its dome with an apical hole through which sunlight enters, illuminating the wall where triangles (representations of the female pubis) are carved, creating unique optical effects. It is believed that this site was sacred and dedicated to the goddess of fertility. Transfer to the trailhead for the Pico del Pozo de las Nieves trek. At 1,949 meters, it is the highest peak on Gran Canaria and also its geographical center. The second highest peak is the iconic Roque Nublo, at 1,813 meters, topped by a basaltic spire extending about 80 meters, and Roque Bentayga at 1,412 meters. The latter two peaks were considered sacred by the early inhabitants of the Canary Islands, the Guanches, who left many inscriptions, ceremonial traces, and granaries in this area. Final transfer to Playa del Inglés. Dinner and overnight stay.
Start the morning with the bikes from the first day. A trip to Gran Canaria offers the perfect opportunity to explore one of the island’s many breathtaking landscapes. Among them is the Grand Canyon, which slices through the southern part of the island and can be accessed by MTB on trails that don’t require advanced technical skills but do need strong legs. The route begins at Playa del Inglés with a long, steady climb. Following the riverbed, you’ll reach Ayagaures, climb up to Las Tederas, and then follow the road to Monte León before returning to Playa del Inglés. Nestled in the deep valleys of southern Gran Canaria, Ayagaures is a quaint village with traditional stone houses, surrounded by arid landscapes. Life here revolves around traditional activities such as goat farming and agriculture. The name Ayagaures comes from the pre-Hispanic language and means “between two mountains.” The valley is surrounded by palm trees, pines, and dragon trees. Due to its size, it is one of the most important and picturesque valleys on the island. These mountains and the wilderness are just minutes away from more touristy areas. A dirt track leads deeper into the famous “Grand Canyon.” A long ascent through solitary farms and orange groves takes you to Las Tederas at 618 meters above sea level. Within a few kilometers, the terrain becomes completely arid at 500 meters above sea level. Even the most dedicated cyclists will find themselves stopping frequently to take unparalleled photographs. From here, the route leads to Monte León, where the position offers stunning panoramic views of the Maspalomas dunes and the Atlantic to the south. Return to the hotel. Enjoy some leisure time on the beach and a swim in the sea. Dinner and overnight stay.
Today, we explore the stunning Maspalomas Natural Reserve in the south of Gran Canaria, a unique ecosystem where the wind continuously reshapes the beautiful dunes. The lagoon is a rare and singular habitat. In the far south of the island, you’ll find one of the most intriguing protected natural spaces in the Canary Archipelago: the Special Natural Reserve of Maspalomas Dunes. The landscape here is uniquely mesmerizing, stretching over approximately 400 hectares. It features a remarkable variety of environments, including expansive dunes, a small lagoon, and a valuable palm grove, making it a site of immense interest for its landscape, geomorphology, botany, and wildlife. Today's activities include walking along the beach, engaging in water activities, and enjoying refreshments at one of the many beachside bars (chiringuitos) near the boardwalk. The reserve is composed of three distinct ecosystems: the Palm Grove (Palmeral), the Lagoon (Charca), and the Dunes (Dunas), which run parallel to the sea. This vast natural area is of exceptional ecological value. There are opportunities for boat excursions for whale watching, underwater adventures, kayaking, paddleboarding, sailing tours, and even camel safaris—all available upon request and subject to organization. For those who still have energy, road biking or mountain biking excursions are also possible. The day will conclude with dinner and overnight stay.
After breakfast at the hotel, transfer (not included) to the airport for your departure. End of services.
