More information regarding the time and meeting point for the first/last day will be provided after the booking.
The meeting point is set for 10:00 AM at the parking area in the lower part of the town of Mompeo. From there, we will move together to the starting point of our River Walking route, which runs along the Farfa River. The river originates in the Sabina hills and, during its journey, has carved a deep and hidden gorge right beneath the town of Mompeo, a place recently declared a Natural Monument. Our path will begin near the remains of the old mill, where historical structures such as the grinding mills and a characteristic bridge are still visible. After putting on the necessary gear, we will start walking along the riverbed, a spectacular landscape where the gorge's walls narrow and rise, creating small rapids and waterfalls. The central part of the route is particularly fascinating, with long natural corridors carved into the rock, interspersed with wider areas rich in vegetation.

Experience an adventurous day at the Gole del Farfa with a River Walking activity, walking along the river’s course amidst spectacular scenery and natural rock formations. With a helmet and neoprene wetsuit, you’ll navigate narrow gorges and stunning openings, diving into crystal-clear pools and sliding down small natural descents. This experience, suitable for all ages and requiring no technical skills, allows you to explore hidden places immersed in nature, offering a direct connection with the environment.
To make the most of this experience, we kindly ask you to bring the following:
- A swimsuit, already worn at the start of the activity
- Sturdy sneakers with non-slip soles, or hiking boots, also suitable for walking in the water
- A towel or bathrobe for after the activity
- A complete change of clothes, including shoes, to leave in the car

Must-Know Details
Open to travelers aged 10 and older (younger participants may be considered upon evaluation by the guides), a good state of health is required, and participants should not have a fear of water. To reach the entrance of the gorge, a 20-minute walk on dirt roads and trails is necessary. The duration of the experience is approximately 5 hours, but the times may vary depending on the size and pace of the group.
In the canyon, it is not possible to bring anything other than the necessary equipment, as everything will definitely get wet. We recommend having a good breakfast in the morning, as there are no bars at the meeting point. You may bring a small bottle of water and one or more energy bars. For lunch after the excursion, we recommend bringing a packed lunch to leave in your car.
In case of bad weather, the river flow may increase, even on a daily basis. In such cases, for safety reasons, the guides reserve the right to postpone or cancel the outing.
