Trip Itinerary
More information regarding the time and meeting point for the first/last day will be provided after the booking.
The tour begins in the morning in San Pio delle Camere, where participants gather and are divided into two groups according to their chosen activity: on foot or by mountain bike.
- The walking group, departing at 8:00 AM, is guided through the saffron fields, discovering the secrets of flower harvesting and visiting the historic village. Participants have the unique opportunity to experience firsthand the ancient hand-processing ritual, carefully separating the red stigmas from the delicate petals — a traditional and evocative experience that allows them to understand the entire production process of “red gold.”
- The mountain bike group, departing at 8:30 AM, first visits the saffron fields to observe the harvest and then embarks on a ride of approximately 25 kilometers with 400 meters of elevation gain. The cycling route passes through the picturesque villages of Tussio and Prata d’Ansidonia, the Castello Camponeschi, and the archaeological site of Peltuinum, an ancient Italic city of the Vestini, combining nature, history, and culture in a dynamic and engaging experience.
After the morning activities, both groups meet in the main square at 1:00 PM for lunch. Stalls set up for the occasion offer a full saffron-based menu, including appetizer, first course, main course with side dish, dessert, and water, all accompanied by live music and traditional square dancing. This convivial moment allows participants to share the day’s experiences while celebrating the culture and authentic flavors of Abruzzo.
