Trip Itinerary

More information regarding the time and meeting point for the first/last day will be provided after the booking.

Arrival at the residence in Argentario, between Porto Santo Stefano and Albinia. Free dinner and overnight stay.

Km Stage: 0

The itinerary is designed to ascend the hills of southern Maremma along the Via Amiatina, one of the most beautiful roads in central Italy, passing through the vineyards of Morellino and one of the most picturesque areas of the Maremma. We arrive in Saturnia to enjoy the thermal baths. Free dinner and overnight stay.

Km Stage: 68
Height difference: 1600 m

Today's itinerary takes us through the hills of the lower Maremma along the Via Amiatina, one of the most scenic roads in central Italy. Departure from Porto Santo Stefano with a stretch in the plain and a view of the Spanish Fortress. Climb towards Magliano in Toscana, passing through landscapes reminiscent of the flourishing countryside depicted in Ambrogio Lorenzetti's “Allegory of Good Government” in the Town Hall of Siena. From Magliano, ascend to the village of Pereta, then cross the vineyards of Morellino until reaching Scansano. Enjoy a sea view extending to the Argentario and the island of Giglio, with the central Tyrrhenian Sea, Montecristo, and, on clear days, Corsica in the background. Dinner is at your leisure, followed by overnight stay.

Km Stage: 51
Height difference: 880 m

Departure from Bagnolo/Piancastagnaio, with the option to deviate towards the summit of Amiata, at 1,750 meters above sea level. This detour involves an additional elevation gain of 900 meters, but the 360-degree panoramic view rewards the effort: on one side, the Maremma descending towards the Tyrrhenian Sea, the islands of the Tuscan archipelago, and Corsica; on the other side, the Val d'Orcia. Note: the detour is not included in the total distances. For those preferring a more comfortable option, the route from Bagnolo to Abbadia San Salvatore offers a terrace view of Radicofani, the fumaroles, and the Val d'Orcia, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2004. The journey continues towards Bagni San Filippo, known for its warm thermal waters, cycling along the ridge of the clay hills. The surrounding landscapes provide an immersive experience. As you ascend from the Val d'Orcia, you can admire the characteristic cypress trees zigzagging across the hills. After crossing the pass, the view opens up to the Val di Chiana. The final stop is Montepulciano, famous for its Renaissance architecture. Lake Trasimeno is nearby. Dinner is at your leisure, followed by overnight stay.

Km Stage: 52
Height difference: 600 m

Today we enter Umbria, arriving at Castiglione del Lago for a relaxing ride along the lake towards Magione. Monte del Lago leads the ascent to Montecolognola, offering views of Polvese Island with dazzling light reflecting off the surface of the water. The ride continues on a rolling path towards Pieve del Vescovo, with the option to visit Corciano, through the more remote and less populated areas of Umbria. Dinner is at your leisure, followed by an overnight stay.

Km Stage: 58
Height difference: 670 m

Cycling on Monte Tezio towards Ponte Pattoli, crossing the Tiber River. From Casa del Diavolo, the steady ascent begins, leading to the descent towards Gubbio. The medieval city proudly stands at the foot of Mount Ingino. Through the Gola del Bottaccione, we climb to the Madonna della Cima pass (780 meters), which serves as the watershed along the Apennine ridge between the Tyrrhenian and Adriatic Seas. Dinner is at your leisure, followed by an overnight stay.

Km Stage: 65
Height difference: 700 m

Visit the villages of Scheggia, Cagli, and Acqualagna in the Marche region. Arrive at the Gola del Furlo, where the Romans built the Via Flaminia following the course of the Candigliano River. In this area, famous for truffles, stands the Antica Locanda del Furlo, a historic site that has been operating for 150 years and is worth a stop. Among the many travelers welcomed here was Mussolini, who, while returning to Predappio from his Romagna, traveled along the Flaminia. The room where he stayed still preserves its period furnishings. Dinner is at your leisure, followed by an overnight stay.

Km Stage: 47
Height difference: 500 m

The cycling route "Ciclovia della vecchia Flaminia" passes through the Gola del Furlo, one of the most scenic areas of the inland. We will cycle along the Via Flaminia, following the former Metaurense railway, a route waiting to be dedicated to cycle tourism, exploring the territory to appreciate its history, nature, art, and gastronomy. We will cross the ancient Forum Semponii and pass close to the famous Marmitte dei Giganti, which we will visit. The journey continues through well-preserved villages until we reach Fano, where the trip ends beneath the Arch of Augustus, the city gate from the ancient Via Flaminia and home to the Museum of the Via Flaminia. Destination reached! Dinner is at your leisure, followed by an overnight stay.
