Travel Tour Overview
The Giro-E is a one-of-a-kind e-bike experience that takes place on the same days and roads as the Giro d’Italia. Organized by RCS Sport, it is registered as a cycling tourism event in the Italian Cycling Federation’s calendar, with its first edition held in 2019. Thanks to the use of e-bikes, which allow amateur cyclists to tackle climbs typically reserved for professional athletes, the event enables cycling enthusiasts to experience the thrill of the Corsa Rosa by following a similar route. The only differences are the starting locations and the stage distances, which are shorter. The 2025 edition will feature approximately 18 stages, with daily distances ranging from 30 to 85 kilometers. Time trial stages are also included, reinterpreted in the Giro-E as regularity tests. Each stage is ridden as a compact group, except for specific segments where participants compete in regularity tests and special challenges with their teams. In the final phase of each stage, team captains participate in a sprint “exhibition” before crossing the finish line. The Giro-E is exclusively ridden on pedal-assist road bikes (e-road bikes) equipped with motors of 250W and a maximum assisted speed of 25 km/h, provided by each rider’s team. Stage finishes occur just before the Giro d’Italia finish line, but under the same arch, with awards presented on the same podium used by professional cyclists. At every stage finish, a VIP hospitality area is set up near the Giro d’Italia finish arch in a premium location. Here, participants can rest, enjoy refreshments, and watch the arrival of the professional riders from the Corsa Rosa. The Giro-E also aims to raise awareness of sustainable mobility and environmental sustainability through its new “Green Fun Village,” which will travel to all starting cities, further promoting eco-conscious practices.
