Snowshoeing from Pietransieri to Piana del Re

The meeting point is at 9:45 AM in Pietransieri (Roccaraso), the starting point of our snowshoeing tour along the historic Gustav Line. Participants are required to arrive with their own transportation. From here, we will begin walking along the gently ascending trail toward Piana del Re, passing through a snow-covered beech forest. From the very first steps, the landscape opens up to wide spaces and surrounding valleys, creating a unique and relaxing winter atmosphere. The first part of the route takes us past rocky outcrops and open clearings, where you can enjoy views of the Altopiani Maggiori in Abruzzo. Along the way, we will have the opportunity to observe wildlife tracks and learn about historical aspects connected to the Gustav Line, which once crossed these lands during World War II. Continuing, we will enter more wooded sections, where beech and larch trees create an intimate and quiet environment, perfect for fully immersing ourselves in nature. The final destination is Piana del Re, a small plateau where a cozy refuge awaits us for a short break and to enjoy the peaceful snowy mountain surroundings. The return will follow the same path, alternating between open areas and forested sections, completing an easy yet engaging excursion rich in natural and cultural experiences.
