Mtb Adventure Gran Sasso

Independent departure from the historic center of L'Aquila, joining the disused L'Aquila-Capitignano railway line. Ride along gentle gradients and smooth gravel through Pizzoli, Barete, and Montereale up to Capitignano. From here, begin the unpaved climb leading to the high-altitude pastures of Lake Campotosto. Enjoy a scenic loop around the lake shores, cross toward Capannelle Pass, and follow a mid-mountain trail at the foot of Mount San Franco down to Fonte Cerreto.

• Terrain & Type: All-Mountain / MTB | Disused railway gravel, mule tracks, secondary asphalt, and singletracks | Difficulty: Intermediate
• Activities: Self-guided ride along the former railway line, Lake Campotosto loop, and Capannelle Pass crossing
• Recommended Food Experience: Lakeside lunch or afternoon snack featuring traditional Campotosto Mortadella, local pecorino cheese, and rustic bread (not included)

Breakfast at the accommodation. From the base of Fonte Cerreto, climb along unpaved tracks and forest roads toward Monte Cristo Pass, immersing yourself in the vast eastern alpine pastures. Crossing the plain via mule tracks and fast gravel paths, reach the Medici hamlet of Santo Stefano di Sessanio. The final section follows a scenic contouring singletrack through high-altitude meadows leading directly below the majestic castle of Rocca Calascio.

• Activities: Self-guided high-altitude ride, crossing Medici pastures, independent visit to Santo Stefano di Sessanio, and ascent to Rocca Calascio Castle

Breakfast at the accommodation and check-out. Morning independent departure toward the entrance of the breathtaking Valianara Canyon (Scoppaturo Canyon), a famous backdrop for classic Western films. Ride up the unpaved mountain road across the boundless meadows of Campo Imperatore reaching the Observatory Square. From here, join the spectacular and exposed singletrack traverse toward Vado di Corno (2,000 m), marking the start of the epic Enduro descent: a long, technical singletrack (S2/S3 difficulty) through limestone rock and flowing forest sections down to Fonte Cerreto, concluding with the final ride back to the heart of L'Aquila.

• Activities: Self-guided ride through Scoppaturo Canyon and Campo Imperatore plateau, scenic traverse at Vado di Corno, and technical S2/S3 Enduro descent to L'Aquila
• Recommended Food Experience: Iconic stop at the mountain eateries across the high plain for traditional outdoor charcoal-grilled arrosticini paired with local Gentian liqueur (not included)
